Vienne, France
A town full of history
Vienne, in the Rhone Valley, was the capital of Burgundy until the 9th century, and a major Roman wine port – we wonder what they would have made of the annual Vienne jazz festival? Vienne is now the base for our more intensive language courses with their 24-hour language assistance, but even our most dedicated language school students can’t help but enjoying this historic town to the full.

Climbing up Pipet Hill the panoramic view leaves you in no doubt just how important wine and wine drinking is to this region, for either side of the Rhône the valley is carpeted by prestigious vineyards such as Côte-Rôtie, Condrieu and Sotanum. Indeed much of the town’s great history stems from its position as a major Roman wine-port, and the local’s pride in their produce has never diminished.
The town, bustling and businesslike, is a great place to explore and to practice the language skills you’ll have gained, not only in the local shops and bars but also at the many historical sites and cultural attractions.
Indeed, it’s the cultural life of Vienne that impresses most - French to its core it’s impossible to return home without feeling just at little more the Gallophile.
